Individual, Couples, & Family Counseling

I see currently see clients for individual, couples/family therapy.  I am interested in forming a collaborative relationship with my clients in which we together decide the goals and length of treatment.  I practice from primarily Narrative, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy/Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existential and Bowen Family Systems theoretical perspectives.  We might look at how ways of thinking affect your feelings and behavior.  We also might explore what your functioning is in the context of your family system and personal or work relationships. We would determine whether those relationships are optimal or not and learn strategies to improve them.  I often invite you to explore talents, strengths, and abilities – most often seen in stories that you tell about yourself or that others tell about you – that have been overshadowed by the problem story that you bring to therapy.  Together, we re-discover your preferred experiences in your life, and your hopes, dreams and wishes.  Retelling these experiences and stories, and discussing strategies for change often helps clients uncover ways to overcome the problem(s) and live a happier life.

Individuals who consult with me are often challenged by these issues:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • family and parenting issues
  • communication and relationship issues
  • chronic illness
  • disabilities and communication disorders (such as ADHD, LD, etc.)
  • grief /loss
  • treatment for insomnia via CBT-I
  • Telehealth counseling via secure video on Zoom
