About My Practice
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in South Burlington, Vermont and Florida and have been in private practice since 2006.
I provide psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families that promotes growth and learning. I see my clients in person or via Telehealth video counseling. I believe that difficult life situations provide unique opportunities for growth.
Education and Work Experience:
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Middlebury College in 1979. I also received a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Vermont in 1984. For some 20 years I have provided speech-language services to children, adults and groups in the public schools, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, the Baird Center and at the University of Vermont.
In 2003, I returned to school and earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling in 2006. My direct clinical training included two years of internship and one and a half years as a Triage Counselor at the UVM Counseling Center. I provided counseling to students for anxiety and depression, learning disabilities and led groups, such as the Mindfulness for Living Group, Grief and Loss, and a Support Group for Students with Disabilities. I continue to include work on mindfulness with many of my clients. I have also worked as a Substitute Crisis Clinician with HowardCenter’s Mobile Crisis Team for over two years, and as Counselor/Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities at Champlain College for one semester in 2008. Since 2008 I have been in private practice in a small group practice called Optima. I have also instructed courses as Adjunct Instructor in the Communication Sciences and in the Counseling Graduate Program at UVM. I feel my counseling skills are enriched by over 20 years of experience as a therapist working with children, adolescents, adults and families impacted by a communication disorder. I enjoy seeing teens, adults, couples/families and will often see young teens with a parent or significant other from a narrative therapy approach.
